Masked Pain

Masked pain, hidden from the public, friends, and family. Sometimes it takes a celebrity’s tragedy to start a discussion that has been needed for a very long time.

We sadly lost a talent and a gift in our arts yesterday. And, many other less well-knowns peoples’ lives have been lost, too.

I hope we’ll keep talking about suicide.  And eating disorders.  And other mental health struggles.

The more we talk and get accurate information, the more we can reduce the shame that helps keep that deep pain a secret.

A fairly commonly known piece of information is that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness due to both physical complications and suicide.

For anyone suffering, please reach out and try and try again to find the hope… Get help. Sometimes it takes a bunch of tries.  If this feels too big, let me offer you this question:  How do we get to the second floor if there isn’t an elevator?  “Step by step.”  Sometimes it doesn’t even seem like we are moving; yet each step matters…

From http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org — “No matter what problems you are dealing with, we want to help you find a reason to keep living. By calling 1-800-273-TALK (8255) you’ll be connected to a skilled, trained counselor at a crisis center in your area, anytime 24/7.”
