“What you eat” alone does not determine a person’s size. Here are some factors that matter, and they aren’t all of them. Body Type What might your natural body be? Willowy and thin? Muscular and medium? Strong and hearty or round? Think about the distinct body type, meaning shapes and characteristics people are born with.…Read more »

“Right” Bodies, Foods, Dietitians, and Fitness Trainers
The norm in social conversations and media is to point towards “right” bodies and “right” foods. I think people link helpers who work with food, body and weight issues to being role models. Indeed, helpers can be! But role modeling what’s right might look very different than it’s conventionally thought of. The intention of this blog…Read more »
Health is About More than Weight
“Health” has been on my mind lately. I feel sad that so many of us have based health on nearly exclusively size/weight. There are so many other categories that comprise your/my/our overall health. In my opinion and for example: Quality of sleep. If you are not getting enough or quality-enough sleep, you will probably not…Read more »
Been a while since I blogged, for a good reason
So there are a few months without posts or with sporadic posts, and here’s why. I’ve been committed to self-acceptance movement called #ShakeIt for Self-Acceptance!® since early 2014. Holly-body-positive-wood? Well, not yet. But on the way
Is there finally an article that feels hopeful to read about size and actresses in Hollywood? Yes, and it’s titled, “In a Body-Positive Moment, Why Does Hollywood Remain Out of Step?” by Brooks Barnes. I reacted with mainly “Right on!” or “Yes” responses to many of the points included in the article. However, I’m going…Read more »
Complaints and compliments – To the Bone
Recently, Marti Noxon told her recovery story in film, To the Bone. AND I have some compliments for this Hollywood warrior who bravely told…Read more »
France’s New Law(s) Concerning Beauty
Times are changing! France just passed a law banning unhealthy, thin models—models now have to have medical clearance to work. Employers who break this law risk fines and possible jail as penalties. Some in the field of eating disorders support this self-disclosure to clients; it can help ofter hope. Bingeing: a rare but serious risk
A while ago, my colleague and friend, Dr. Lauren Muhlheim, and I wrote a paper (Eating disorders and scope of competence for outpatient psychotherapists). While researching potential medical consequences of different eating disorder behaviors, we came across something that is supposedly not common and there is very few articles on it: acute massive gastric dilatation.…Read more »
